Description: This is a must have maple, in our opinion! One of our favorites! The texture and interesting growth habit are unlike any other! Shishigashira is an upright Japanese maple with unique, crinkly leaves. A slow grower, this variety can reach up to 10’ in 15 years. Its spring leaves start out lime green and darken into a very deep shade of green. In autumn this tree stands out with numerous shades of orange. ❗️Fun fact❗️- Shishigashira means Lion’s head. This doesn’t actually refer to the animal, but of sculptures, masks, and architectural elements that blend a Chinese lion and a Korean dog. The shishi-gashira visage showed up in Japan around the 7th century and represents protection. All our Shishi’s are fully rooted into their 1 gallons and a minimum of 12” tall for a dwarf.
