Landscape, By Kano Maranobu, Waterfall, by Kano Tanyu. The Kano School was founded by Kano Masanobu (1493-1490) and was carried on by his son, Kano Motonobu (1476-1559). It was a period when connoisseurship in Japanese art reached a very high point and noted art critics, such as So-ami, Shingei and Shin-no, laid down the principles of Japanses art criticism. #3. Jurojin, The Spirit of Longevity. Sesshu stands forth as the greatest painter of the whole Ashikaga or Higashiyama Period (1333-1574) in Japanese estimation.
