Description: Japanese Soroban Abacus Calculator Tool This is a vintage Japanese abacus or soroban. It is a mathematics calculating tool and is considered the first calculator in Japan. The Japanese abacus is different from the parent Chinese version. It has a top section of single beads and a bottom of stacked beads, usually five. At the very center is one unmarked stack used for decimal places for more complicated calculations. Many primary schools all over Japan still use these as well as for scorekeeping. This soroban is made of wood with a dark brown color. It is in excellent working order. The ends are made of metal. 1/5 beads and 27 rows Brown Wood, metal C1960 Item weight: 247 grams Packed weight: 447 grams Approx. 7 cm long x 39.5 cm wide x 2 cm tall Good condition considering its age.
