JEAN VALJEAN / HANS OF ICELAND ~ Victor Hugo HC 1866 ILLUS Dana Estes Co. - Y1

Description: Illustrated Sterling Edition Les Miserables Five Volumes in Three Volume 5 JEAN VALJEAN* ~ *HANS OF ICELANDTwo Volumes in Oneby Victor HugoIllustrated Description Hardcover no dust jacket; 929 combined pages; Size Approx. 5 1/2 X 8 1/4. Published by Dana Estes & Company; undated, circa 1900. Details: This is the last part of Les Miserables (Jean Valjean), and the complete Hans of Iceland in the Illustrated Sterling Edition. The five parts of Les Miserables were evidently published in three volumes in this edition. This volume only contains the fifth part, along with the novel Hans of Iceland. Regrettably I do not have the other volumes of Les Miserables.Nicely illustrated with full-page glossies. The upper page edges are gilt. Gilt lettering and decorations on burgundy cover and spine.Hans of Iceland: "Victor Hugo's first novel revolves around the son of the viceroy of Norway (Ordener Guldenlew), his friendship with a political prisoner (John Schumacker), and his secret love affair with the prisoner's daughter (Ethel). When a plot surfaces to bring about the death of Schumacker, the former chancellor, Ordener risks his life to save his friend and his love. Everyone seems to cross paths with the infamous brigand, Han of Iceland, who does not seek to help either side, but takes pleasure in killing everyone he meets. As a result, this book is rather gruesome, but very suspenseful. The romance between Ordener and Ethel was intriguing as well, especially considering the sacrifices they made for each other.""This is an adventure story set in 17th-Century Norway, back when it was part of Denmark. It is a tale of derring-do, featuring a stalwart young man, an enclosed young lady, and an intrigue against the young lady's father, an imprisoned former noble. Twists, turns, heroes, villains, and very odd names abound. It's a lot of fun to read!" A fine addition for your bookshelf! Condition: A little edge wear, otherwise in very good condition with a solid binding and clean pages, hinges are sound, no names or markings. Note: The letter/number at the end of the title line for this listing is just an inventory code for locating the book. Shipping Free Domestic Economy Shipping! Check out my other items! Be assured that we want your experience with Rivendell Antiquarian Books to be enjoyable and problem free. We believe that it is a travesty to simply throw away a used book when there is little or nothing wrong with it - we believe in giving each book the chance of finding a new home. We appreciate the impact a good book can have. We know the excitement of a new page turner, or the familiar joy of an old favorite, and we find satisfaction in putting older, and often scarce books in the hands of people who have the same love for old books that we do.Customer Service:Rivendell Antiquarian Books is committed to ensuring each customer is entirely satisfied with their puchase and our service. If you have any issues or concerns please contact us and we will be more than happy to help. Our books have been inspected carefully by hand by experienced book valuers to ensure the condition description is as accurate as possible for this exact copy pictured. If you have questions about the book before or after purchasing, please feel free to contact us!Packaging:We take pride in packaging our books for safe delivery, and if you check our feedback, you will see this reflected in the comments of many pleased customers. For nearly all of our books, we use a specially designed boxing system from IPS (Inovative Packaging Solutions) located in York, PA. These media shipping boxes are designed to conform to the size of the book, securing it and preventing it from bumping around during shipping. The end result is a box which provides a double thickness of cardboard covering the front and back of the book; actually almost like a box within a box. The outer layer of cardboard extends beyond the ends of the inner "box" which very efficiently protects the corners of the book from being bumped and damaged by the sometimes rough handling packages receive in transit. In addition we place the book in a plastic bag to help guard against moisture if a package is left out in the elements.Delivery:We aim to get all books shipped within 24 hours of order except on weekends. We can't control the delivery time once a book leaves our hands, but most of the time USPS is prompt in delivery, and the expected delivery time given by eBay is usually fairly accurate. Because we use media mail to keep costs down, it does take a little longer for delivery, and occasionally packages get delayed in the mail system. If for some reason your order has not arrived within the expected time frame, please get in contact with us so that we can try to help you.
