Description: Wonderful Vintage Very Rare Jewish Zionistic Medallion “Edmond Rothschild & Moses Montefiore”, Very Rare Jewish Medallion, Pre-Holocaust, Collection. Description: Medallion dedicated to two famous Jewish figures who played a huge role in the revival of the State of Israel - Baron Edmond de Rothschild (1845-1934) and Sir Moshe Chaim Montefiore (1784-1885). On the side of the medallion where a Star of David is located above the man's head Edmond de Rothschild is depicted. At the top in a circle is written: - "The Generous Minister Baron Edmond Rothschild" (and two more incomprehensible letters). Under this letter is a part of the phrase of the prophet Isaiah, chapter 34, verse 26 (Tanakh, Old Testament, Book of the Prophets) - “He who confirms the word of his servant and fulfills the words of his messengers, who says to Jerusalem: “Live”, and to my cities Yehuda: "You will build, and I will restore its ruins." On the other side Moshe Montefiore. Above the circle is the inscription: “The Generous Minister Moshe Montefiore, blessed is the memory of the righteous” (the last three words are stamped on the medal in the form of an abbreviation (zatsel), such abbreviations are added to the names of people who have already died at the time of writing the name). Below this inscription are two lines from the poem "The Face of Moses" by the famous Jewish poet and writer Yehuda Leib Gordon (1830-1892). The song is dedicated to Moses Montefiore and the free interpretation of these two lines is as follows "Remember the truth of the dispersion in Israel, remember what he did in Jerusalem." Edmund Rothschild was still alive when the medallion was minted. Obverse: Baron Edmond Rothschild facing right. Above his head is a Star of David. Obverse legend: "The Generous Minister Edmund Rothschild" Reverse: Sir Moses Haim Montefiore facing left.
