Description: Interesting, rare abstract acrylic painting on board, likely from the 1970s, by well-known Virgin Islands artist and silkscreen designer Jim Tillett (d. 1996). Tillet learned silkscreen printing from his father, who was one of the early innovators of the process. He worked in London, Polynesia, and Mexico before arriving on St. Thomas, Virgin Islands in the late 1950s. He bought a farm outside of Charlotte Amalie and transformed it into an art studio and silkscreen studio. He also offered studio art classes to local children. Tillet designed and sold a variety of silkscreened fabrics and designs in a gallery space on the premises and also sold his original paintings. The studio ceased operations in the 1990s. This rare painting (with a collage element) is signed lower right. It measures 12" x 4 5/8" (painting size) and is in good condition. Framed as shown.
