Description: ORIGINAL 1992 JO SANDMAN (b 1931) 'CLUSTER' SIGNED LIMITED EDTION ETCHING This is just a great original piece. This is one of those pieces I debated keeping as part of my personal collection. The fact that we have no more wall space in our house has kept me from doing that. My loss is someone else's gain. This is an incredibly scarce work by important American artist Jo Sandman. For those not familiar with the artist, I have included her biography below. This is an incredibly scarce work by the artist. I have found a few other prints but this is the only etching I have found. Titled 'Cluster' this looks very much like her 3D work she did with tubes filled with cement and then cut into clusters. Those were done in the early '90s as well so I imagine this was done in conjunction with those. A wonderful etching or mezzotint (not sure exactly and the artist was known for her use of varying methods and materials) measuring 8 1/2 x 12 1/2 inches. Signed, dated, titled, and numebered "1/5AR" in pencil below the image. Perfect as printed condition. The print has been archival matted and framed in a wonderful black from that is complimentary and ready to hang. Frame measures 17 1/4 x 21 1/4 inches. Do your research on the artist. She just had an exhibition last year with Helen Frankenthaler. FREE SHIPPING ANYWHERE IN THE UNITED STATES! For those not familiar with the artist her biography from a gallery that sells her work reads: "Jo Sandman began her career in 1951 with a residency at Black Mountain College. For more than six decades, she has been actively exploring her art as a sculptor, painter, photographer, and installation artist. Intrigued by Robert Rauschenberg and Cy Twombly’s use of unusual and different materials, she began to incorporate uncommon elements into her own work—cement, inner tubes, found objects, rocks, shells, rubber piping, to name a few—creating objects painted without paint and defying our understanding of specific category. Earlier works were minimal and abstract, yet with each evolution she has referenced previous images creating a continuous and expanding body of work. The process has always been as important as the subject matter. Sandman’s work appears in numerous private and public collections, some which include: The Addison Gallery of American Art, The Boston Public Library, The Dallas Museum of art, The Danforth Museum of Art, The DeCordova Sculpture Park and Museum, The Rose Museum, The Seattle Museum of Art, and the Weatherspoon Gallery at the University of North Carolina, Greensboro."
