Description: This is a rare March 24th, 1918 program (playbill) from the National Tour engagement of the SIGMUND ROMBERG and RIDA JOHNSON YOUNG musical "MAYTIME" at the Studebaker Theatre in Chicago, Illinois. (The production opened August 16th, 1917 at the Shubert Theatre in New York City, transferred on February 18th, 1918 to the 44th Street Theatre, moved to the Broadhurst Theatre on April 1st, 1918, followed by a move to the Lyric Theatre on August 5th, 1918 and returned to the Broadhurst Theatre on September 9th, 1918, running for 492 performances while simultaneously playing on the road.) ..... The musical starred JOHN CHARLES THOMAS and the cast included OTIS SHERIDAN, GEORGE HARCOURT, CAROLYN THOMSON, ISABEL VERNON, JENETTA METHVEN, JOHN T. MURRAY, CHARLES H. DETAILS: The twenty page playbill measures 5 1/4" X 7 3/4" inches and includes full production credits, cast list, synopsis of scenes, list of musical numbers, schedule of upcoming attractions and wonderful vintage advertising, but no cast photos or bios. Includes a tribute to the late SAM S. SHUBERT, who in May 1905 was traveling to Pittsburgh on business, when the passenger train he was on collided with several freight cars in the Lochiel neighborhood of Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. Severely injured in the train wreck, Sam Shubert succumbed to his injuries two days later at the age of 26 ..... BONUS: Includes a full page advertisement for the musical revue "OVER THE TOP" which opened that week at Chicago's Garrick Theatre. The revue marked the Broadway debut of eighteen year-old FRED ASTAIRE (sixth scanned image) ..... CONDITION: (Please Note!) There are rust marks at the staples, moderate creasing, small tears to two inside pages, a small amount of paper loss at the top of the title page as a result of a printing flaw and minor edge wear. Despite these flaws, this rare playbill will make a wonderful addition to the collection of any musical theatre aficionado or historian. This item will be carefully packaged in a protective, carded sleeve and backed by stiff cardboard.
