Description: Four selected "minor poems" of John Milton: L'Allegro, Il Penseroso, Comus, and Lycidas in one volume published by Longmans, Green, and Co. in 1903, 7th printing of the first edition, 181 pages. Edited with notes and introductions by William P. Trent, Professor of English at the University of the South. This is a volume in the Longman's English Classics series, edited by George Rice Carpenter, Professor of Rhetoric and English Composition at Columbia College. Good condition for its age.The volume is fully intact, and the binding is tight. The cover shows some wear, pencil, marks, and staining, but is still quite presentable. The pages have no tears or creases, but the text has been extensively annotated, marked, and underlined by a previous owner. The end papers were used for notes also, and some loose sheets of scrap paper with notes were inserted. Smoke Free. This volume apparently was owned by a very enthusiastic and/or determined student of Milton, since the text is copiously annotated, marked, and underlined -- though still perfectly readable. The end papers appear to have been used for lecture notes, and additional notes were written on scrap paper inserted between the pages. Height 7 1/2 in., width 5 in., thickness 3/4 in.
