Description: I'm currently listing a large number of playbills from out-of-town tryouts prior to the Broadway runs. Many are from early performances when revisions were common and include song titles that were cut before opening in New York. (See cut songs below.) ....... This is a rare four-page February 4th, 1956 program (playbill) from the Pre-Broadway tryout and WORLD PREMIERE engagement of the ALAN JAY LERNER and FREDERICK LOEWE musical classic "MY FAIR LADY" at the Shubert Theatre in New Haven, Connecticut. (The production would open March 15th, 1956 at the Mark Hellinger Theatre in New York City and run for 2717 performances.) ..... The Tony Award winning "Best Musical" starred REX HARRISON and JULIE ANDREWS and featured STANLEY HOLLOWAY, CATHLEEN NESBITT, ROBERT COOTE, VIOLA ROACHE, PHILIPPA BEVANS, MICHAEL KING, OLIVE REEVES-SMITH, CHRISTOPHER HEWETT, GORDON DILWORTH and ROD McLENNAN ..... CREDITS: Music by FREDERICK LOEWE; Book and Lyrics by ALAN JAY LERNER (Lerner and Loewe collaborated on "Brigadoon", "Paint Your Wagon", "My Fair Lady", "Camelot" and "Gigi") based on "Pygmalion" by BERNARD SHAW; Sets designed by OLIVER SMITH; Costumes designed by CECIL BEATON; Choreographed by HANYA HOLM; Directed by MOSS HART; Produced by HERMAN LEVIN ..... DETAILS: The four page playbill measures 6" X 9" inches and includes full production credits, cast list, synopsis of scenes and list of musical numbers, but no cast photos or bios ..... CUT SONGS: The list of musical numbers includes "Decorating Eliza" and "Say a Prayer" which were cut out-of-town ..... CONDITION: With the exception of a light spot on the outside edge and a fold across the middle, this playbill is in excellent condition and will make a wonderful addition to the collection of any musical theatre aficionado or historian.
