Description: Wonderful pastel on paper of kids playing on the shore by Elmer Livingston MacRae (1875 - 1953). The pastel is in excellent condition and attractively framed in the arts and crafts style. The frame overall measures 11 1/2” x 12 1/4” and the image size is 5 1/2@ x 6 1/4” approximately . He was active/lived in Connecticut. Elmer MacRae is known for Landscape, floral, genre and portrait painting. Born in New York City, Elmer MacRae became a leading member of the Cos Cob Art Colony, located in Greenwich, Connecticut, and centered around the Holley House. In 1900, he married the Holley's daughter, Constant, and he frequently used his wife and young daughters as subjects in his paintings. He was the treasurer and one of the organizers of the 1913 New York Armory Show where he exhibited 10 paintings and was one of the founders of The American Pastel Society and the Greenwich Society of Artists.
