Description: Here offered is an amazing specimen with lots of pyromorphite with several different generations. Good specimens from the old quarries around Gadernheim-Reichenbach-Raidelbach are quite scarce on the market even in Germany since the quarries where backfilled and landscaped years ago. This came from the quarry known as Bergweg II, near to where I grew up in the Odenwald. The specimen features a nice piece of dark quartz which is from the oxidation of the silver-bearing galena. Tiny quartz crystals grew over the vugs left behind by the oxidized galena leading to almost jet-black background under the quartz crystals. There are some nice "barrel" pyromorphite crystals as well as needle-like sprays of pyrormorphite. They cover a good portion of the specimen on the top and 2 sides. Some of the oxidized vugs have material that looks a lot like acanthite which wouldn't be impossible since acanthite ands native silver where both found in the quarries. The base also has some malachite. Awesome specimen to explore under the microscope and look at all the gorgeous pyromorphite crystals. Specimens like this only come from old collections nowadays since all the quarries have closed long ago. This is definitely one of the best pyro specimens I have ever seen from the Odenwald as a whole and is definitely one of the largest! This piece was collected by Paul Sautner in 1992, a German collector from the Odenwald, and come with his label. 6x6x4 cm
