Description: I found this at an estate sale. It's a snapshot (5"x3.5") of movie star Kirk Douglas sitting next to Governor Mario Cuomo in 1985. It's taken at the Century Club in Amsterdam N.Y. Mr. Douglas was originally from Amsterdam and came home for the dedication of "Kirk Douglas Park", a new park that had been build in downtown Amsterdam. Governor Cuomo was there because most of the funding for the park was sourced from New York State. Kirk Douglas would return to visit Amsterdam quite frequently to visit childhood friends but it was always very quiet with no press or notification. This time was different. There was a banquet in his honor the evening before and a "Welcome Home" parade in the morning. In the afternoon Governor Cuomo and other local state officials came to a ceremony at the Century Club in Amsterdam (where this photo was taken) then proceeded to the park to dedicate it and open it the public. The winner will get the inside story of what really went down that day along with the photo.
