Description: ‘Have nothing in your houses that you do not consider to be beautiful or useful.’ William Morris Large Antique Nap III Display Marquetry Planter/Centerpiece 1850 - 1870’s An exceptional piece is this antique display wooden planter with inlaid marquetry, solid bronze swag corner mounts and styled feet with its original, fitted metal liner. Created during the Napoleon III period 1850’s- 1870’s, it is in very good condition. The marquetry appliqués are composed of tiny mother-of-pearl inserts and small brass crosses, with a brass pearl framing on all sides. One tiny dot and one tiny cross are missing on one of the panels, not really visible. The planter has a brass gallery top railing and a brass handle on each side. Finding one with its original fitted metal liner is rare and the liner has been left in its original condition. It is a large-size display planter measuring 18 inches (46 cms) long at the top, 13 inches (33 cms) at its widest points and stands 9 inches (23 cms) high. The interior liner is 6 ½ (16.5 cms) inches deep. With all of its bronze and brass fittings, it weighs 10.12lbs (4.97 kgs) and comes from an estate sale, where it spent most of its existence in an elegant private library. It is an outstanding decorative piece, rarely found in such very good condition.
