Description: Wheeler & Wilson Treadle Sewing Machine TableWith Original Coffin Top cover & Sewing Box This piece is in very good physical condition and looks excellent from angles.We have gone through this procedure a few times, and this one stands out in howeverything fit together without a hitch and the outcome is amazing. The mahoganytop is from a late 1800s Empire game table, and the base once housed a turn of the(20th) century Wheeler & Wilson no. 9 sewing machine. Both pieces were in fine conditionto begin with, so we knew that the end result was going to be exceptional. Included are thecoffin top cover and small sewing box that were original to the piece when it was in use. Topto bottom: The top surface of the table is very nice, save for a few faint scratches. Nothing wasdone to this part other than to apply furniture polish, as it looks excellent with vivid grain swirls showing.The base is attached to the top using the original screws, and it is tight and solid. The drawer housingsare both damage free and look very good overall, and the drawers are the same with nothing found to pointout besides an old glued area on one that is not visible unless it is taken out. The fronts have a nice shinyfinish ad the original handles look good. The entire cast iron base is free of any damage or corrosion. It wasgiven a couple applications of enamel to clean up the appearance and to protect it from any future moisture.The treadle mechanism functions properly, the spinning action silent and smooth. The arm was painted black,and once we realized that it was made of wood we decided to remove the paint, stain it and add a semi-glosscoat. This piece is in nice solid condition and now looks very nice. One of the wheels did not turn at all. It wasloosened up with penetrating oil, and it now turns with effort. The other three roll fine. The sewing machine coverlooks excellent inside and out. The top piece has been glued at some point. This was only noticeable when thecover was being gone over in detail and does not normally show. The small oak box is in very good physicalcondition, opening and closing properly, and it looks very good overall.
