They were top line makers specializing in the POLICE & SECURITY line. Starting business about 1945 in Los Angeles, California. They moved to Whittier CA. in 1952 and finally to Montebello, CA. in 1963 where they operated for nearly two generations. Their equipment was top notch, and stood up to hard work and abuse. Every cop in Southern California has some Safety Speed equipment on his belt. Best known for their custom CLAM SHELL holsters, they also carried a full line of police equipment, holsters and gizmos right up to just a few years ago. Litigation and family tragedies hounded the company over the years, and these and the pressure of competition, hurt the company. A few short years ago they moved their business to the Arizona/Nevada area, where the original owner continued to make a few rigs in a much smaller operation. Sadly in 2008, the original owner has passed away. No one stood in line to take over the business so now Safety Speed Company has permanently passed away with him. This is for a NEW, unpackaged, old factory stock, SAFETY SPEED of Montebello, California, brand BASKETWEAVE BLACK leather PADDLE style holster for concealment. It is heavy leather, double stitched in the stress areas. A fully welted seam front & rear makes for a no binding holster that holds its shape. It is wet molded, smoothed and coated on the inside. - The holster is their Standard hip design, with a CLOSED trigger guard and full grip access for a fast and sure draw. This is SS's Model 75A PADDLE TAB Holster Your gun is retained by an inside snap and strap with a reinforced thumb break. BRASS HARDWARE This is an open muzzle holster. This is a LEFT HANDED Holster -- The holster has a soft metal reinforced leather tab, which allows you use this holster with or without a belt. You simply slip it into your waistband and you are ready to roll. The soft metal allows you to contour the paddle to your hip shape. If you chose to wear a belt, there is a snap over loop to attach it and make sure you get a firm draw of just the gun and not the holster. It rides high and close to the body for excellent concealment and retention in a butt forward carry. A retention strap and inside snap secure your gun. WHAT IT FITS The holster is marked With the SAFETY SPEED Logo, however they partly scratched it off. This is NOT A SECOND. This was just done at the behest of the lawyers, since the company is no longer insured and was a factory direct holster. (I'm not really sure how that helps). It is hand marked on the back O Models the fit Include COLT Government 1911 OFFICER MODEL Size in .45 .38 super 9mm caliber with a 3.5" Barrel. ALSO FITS COLT COMMANDER 1911 4.25, with the barrel popping thru as shown. HAMMER DOWN or COCKED & LOCKED CARRY Clones of the Colt such as Kimber , Wilson , & Springfield Armory should also fit I have shown it with a SPRINGFIELD ARMORY and Commander Guns not for sale.
