Description: Offered here is a wood engraving of Thomas Eakins (1844-1916) that was included in Leonard Baskin’s “Laus Pictorum, Portraits of Nineteenth Century Artists” published in 1969. The engraving is identified as “Eakins” in pencil and signed “Baskin,” also in pencil. This print is listed on page 174 of The Complete Prints of Leonard Baskin: A Catalogue Raisonne 1948-1963 by Alan Fern and Judith O’Sullivan. We acquired this print from the estate of Bill Bishop, a long-time friend of Baskin, who operated art and antique galleries and shops in Scottsdale, Arizona and Allenspark, Colorado. We opened the back up to make sure the print was in good condition. The image itself is approximately 1 ¾ by 2 ¼ inches and the frame is about 13 ½ by 17 ½ inches. The print is in very good to excellent condition, although the frame does have some nicks and scrapes. Please review the accompanying photographs carefully as they are the most important part of the description. Leonard Baskin (1922-2000) was a nationally and internationally acclaimed sculptor, printmaker, graphic designer and teacher. His work is in a number of museums including the Museum of Modern Art, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the British Museum, the Vatican Museums, the Smithsonian Museum, the Whitney Museum of American Art, the National Portrait Gallery and many others.
