Description: Limoges Vignaud Serving Platter 10"X 6" The Meuse Red Yellow Blue Gold 1911-1920 Elegant Decorative SERVING PLATTER 9 1/2" by 5 1/2", VIGNAUD FRÈRES of Limoges, France, PATTERN THE MEUSE, Smooth Rim w/Embossed GOLD HANDLES, circa 1911-1920 DESCRIPTION: The absolutely beautiful decorative platter was manufactured, designed, and decorated in the Vignaud Frères Studio and imported by Wanamaker. The designer of the decoration was most talented. The overall quality of the design is quite professional. The garlands consist of red & yellow flowers with their green leaves. All of this is very daintily outlined in black. The scrollwork associated with this is a dark blue with a yellow undulating band next to the gold trim on the rim. There is even a fine black line between the yellow and the gold. We have a very large set of this The Meuse pattern and will have multiple listing. Check our eBay store to see more. CONDITION: While this decorative serving platter is classified as used, its condition is excellent. The only issue is an old, tight, watertight hairline that 1" long starting at the rim and going inward. See photos #6 & #9. There is no age appropriate wear to the gold on the rim. There are no chips, nicks, cracks, rubbings, scratches, flakes, crazing or other hairlines. See the photos. DIMENSIONS: The serving platter is 9 1/2" by 5 1/2" with a height of 1 1/2". HISTORY/MARKS: Brothers, Albert & Gustave, established the pottery in 1911 in Limoges, France operating together until 1938. Gustave died and Albert continued alone. In 1970, the factory was sold to Bernardaud. In 1876, John Wanamaker established the first true department store, The Grand Depot, in Philadelphia and perhaps in all of America. In 1878, he added a china department to his store and in the early 1900’s imported china from many quality manufacturers in France, Bohemia, Austria, and Germany such as Jean Pouyat in Limoges. This item is marked with the “W” inside of a green wreath with ribbon under it which indicates Wanamaker operations in Philadelphia, Paris, and New York. The mark was used from 1900-1920. This sets the circa for this item to be 1911-1920 Please view all pictures carefully as they are part of the description. The stand was used as a photo prop and is not part of this listing.
