Description: "The Lives of the Most Eminent Painters" by Giorgio Vasari, translated by Marilyn Aronberg Lavin, offers biographies of prominent artists. The Foster translation includes full-color reproductions of thirty-two representative works by the artists featured in the biographies. Additionally, there are forty-five woodcut portraits, with forty created by Vasari in 1568 and five crafted by Fritz Kredel for this edition. Dr. Giovanni Marder-steig designed and printed the book at the Stamperia Valdonega in Verona, Italy, using 14-point English Monotype Bembo with two points of leading. The book comprises two volumes, with a total of 828 pages, 404 in Volume I and 424 in Volume II. The off-white wove paper, specially made in Italy for this book, bears a unique VASARI watermark. The volumes are bound in reddish-brown linen with gold-stamped titles on black panels, and the tops are stained a light ochre. The slipcase is covered in French hand-marbled paper.
