Description: Lloyd Lozes Goff (1908-1982) oil and tempera on canvas entitled “Along the A.I and S.F.” (I.e. Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe Railroad) alternate title “Young Hobos.” This painting was acquired directly from the artist in Albuquerque, New Mexico by the consignor’s grandparents during the 1940s, when Goff was on the faculty at the University of New Mexico. It has rested with the family as a treasured heirloom and has never been on the market since they acquired it in the 1940s. Has New Mexico Museum traveling exhibition and Whitney Museum labels verso. Consignor’s grandfather was a physician for the Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe Railroad in Albuquerque in the 1930s and 1940s and a personal friend of Goff. Canvas measures 31” x 19.5.” An evocative work which captures the trials and exhaustion (even for very young men) of a life “riding the rails” but also the pure freedom and exaltation of traveling a wonderful country and exploring a stunningly beautiful landscape.
