Lonicera fragrantissima is a flowering plant species in the Caprifoliaceae family known by the common names of winter honeysuckle, fragrant honeysuckle, January Jasmine Chinese honeysuckle, kiss me at the gate, and finally a sweet breath of spring. Species fragrantissima grows in dry to medium soils well-drained and in full sun to part shade. It adapts to a wide range of soils, including dry ones, but prefers moist, loamy soils. Lonicera fragrantissima is commonly called Winter honeysuckle fragrant honeysuckle or January honeysuckle. A somewhat stiff branched deciduous shrub with a bushy spreading habit. Typically grows 6 to 10 feet tall and as wide. It is a highly fragrant vine smelling of lemons. Sporting a short tubed with creamy white flowers that appear in early spring before the leaves emerge. Small, white flowers start in January and continue through March. Flowers are followed by a small red berry that matures in late spring to early summer. The oval dark green foliage sometimes has a bluish tinge to it. The leaves look like other honeysuckle leaves but are broader and more rounded.
