Description: This exquisitely detailed blackware pot by Rito Talavera Quezada measures 6" in diameter, and 4 1/2" high. From the textured snake skin, fangs, and the artists playful addition of the snake piercing through a finished opening of the pot, the sculpted, carved, and pierced design is in perfect scale and natural accuracy. Finely etched matte and polished black geometric designs cover the exterior of the vessel. There are no broken pieces on either of the 2 Snakes, no chips, gouges or deep scratches. The pot was displayed on a shelf (see signature photo) but, has been kept in climate controlled, low light storage for over thirty years. "Lydia Quezada is the youngest sister of Juan Quezada and she learned the art of making pottery from him. She taught her husband, Rito Talavera, to make pots, too, and has been teaching her children. Rito's general pieces tend to be stone-polished blackware with sculptural forms of turtles, lizards and snakes added to the rims and the upper sides of his ollas." - from "In the Eyes of the Pot" This piece is in excellent collectors Gift Condition and has been priced below appraised value at $333.
