Description: This is a Sterling Silver (.925) Fully Hand Engraved 3 piece Texas Ranger Buckle Set made by Michael Garcia. This particular set belongs to my wife and she is “down sizing” her collection of Western Belt Buckle Sets and has ask me to sell this set. My eBay Item # 458. DESCRIPTION: BUCKLE 3 PC. SET: SIZE OF BUCKLE: This is a large domed solid Sterling Silver Fully Hand Engraved Texas Ranger Buckle Set. The Buckle measures 2 5/8 inches (2 5/8”) width by 3 inches (3”) length. This Buckle is for a 1 inch (1”) belt. The width of the opening for the belt or billet is 1” which is adequate for a 1 inch (1”) belt or billet. FRONT OF BUCKLE: The Sterling Silver Front of the Buckle is Fully High Relief Engraved Scroll with Three (3) Flowers and a Red Gem Stone in each Flower. The outer edge of the buckle is raised smooth rope edging. See Pictures. BACK OF BUCKLE: The back of the Buckle is Hallmarked “STERLING” and “MEX” on the outer top tip of Buckle. The center of the Buckle is Signed or Hallmarked “M Garcia”, “STERLING” and “MEX”. The Back of the Buckle is Fully Hand Engraved. See pictures. KEEPER: This set has one (1) Sterling Silver Keepers. The Keeper is Fully Hand Engraved on the top, both sides and bottom. The Top of the Keeper is raised Scroll Engraving with a Flower containing a Red Gem Stone in the keeper. The Bottom of the Keeper is Hallmarked “M Garcia”, “STERLING” and “MEX”. The Keeper match the belt buckle. The outer edge of the Keeper has raised smooth rope edging. Keeper is 1.25 inches (1 1/4”) length by 5/8 inches (5/8”) at widest point by .75 inches (3/4”) depth. See pictures. TIP: The Sterling Silver Tip is Fully Hand Engraved on top, sides and bottom. The Tip matches the Buckle and Keepers. The Top of the Tip is raised Scroll Engraving with a Flower containing a Red Gem Stone. The Tip has raised smooth Rope Edging on the outside edge. The Tip is 1.75 inches (1 3/4”) in length by 1 inches (1”) wide and .25 inches (1/4”) in height. Tip is Hallmarked “M Garcia”, “STERLING” and “MEX”. See pictures. The Sterling Silver Belt Tip is still connected to the belt that it was installed on. The Tip was glued to the belt to keep it from coming off and being lost. So the belt is included in this listing, I will let the new owner remove the tip from the belt if he so wishes to do so. CONDITION: The Buckle, Keepers and Tip are in perfect condition with minor tarnishing on back of Buckle. This is a set that has been installed on a belt and worn. This is one of my wife’s many buckle sets. I am including the tan (light brown) belt with this listing. The belt is nothing special, just a belt. It is a size 24. See pictures. I would rate the workmanship of this Buckle Set on the same level as the early works of Bob Berg Silversmith or Hy O Silver Silversmith. Great craftsmanship with details to quality and appealing visual perception. I purchase this set new from Mr. Garcia. The set was a gift for my wife. ABOUT THE ARTIST: Michael Garcia (Na Na Ping) was born in 1952 at the Pascua Yaqui village of Guadalupe just outside of Tempe Arizona where he is a registered member. After receiving a business degree from Arizona State University, inspired by his uncle’s (Charles Hernandez) lapidary work, he began his career in jewelry. Developing his skills over time, he began experimenting with cutting edge inlay using a wide range of semi-precious stones such as turquoise, variscite, sugalite, jade and other semi-precious stones. His fame developed from his unusual ability to combine many intricate cuts into a mosaic of color onto a wide and heavy sterling silver shank. This mosaic extends to the edge of the piece of jewelry, giving it a feel of floating atop without the sterling silver appearing in the field of the piece, much like you feel on the edge of an infinity pool. After meeting his wife, a Nambe pueblo woman, her grandfather in a ceremony gave him the name Na Na Ping, the Tewa word meaning Aspen Mountain. Today, Na Na Ping teaches jewelry design at the Poeh arts school in Pojaque Pueblo north of Santa Fe, New Mexico. He is the past president of the Indian Arts and Crafts Association based in Albuquerque, New Mexico and has served as Vice President of the prestigious Southwestern Association for Indian Arts. He is the recipient of the SWAIA Arlene Feddes fellowship award that recognizes excellence in Native American Art.
