Description: Michelangelo: The Frescoes of the Sistine Chapel, Text Commentary by Marcia B. Hall, Hardcover Book in Dust Jacket, 2002. Published by Harry Abrams. 157 images in full color. "Michelangelo's frescoes in the Sistine Chapel--the great glories of the Vatican, and one of the treasured masterpieces of the Western painting--provide a visual feast for art lovers in this magnificent book." Photographed by Takashi Okamura, who was given the first opportunity to photograph the Sistine Chapel after its decades-long restoration during the 1980s. Commentary by Marcia B. Hall explains and analyzes the images in historical context. The book is in beautiful condition, pages shiny, bright and clean, images beautiful and of various sizes, some in close detail and some in fold-out panoramic scale. Text block, hinges, and spine tight, dust jacket has miniscule bend at upper front, corners very good. Includes postcards from a previous owner who had obviously made a pilgrimage to Rome. The only flaw is a small signature and comment by an artist who noted "7.50 in an antique store. God is good. Word" with the date 2007 stretched above and a flowing by unreadable signature line inside the front cover as indicated in my pictures. A wonderful present, a beautiful addition to a collection, or a photographic, historical resource guide to the Sistine Chapel frescoes.
