The Games Dig Dug and Pac-Man are always going to remain the same regardless of translation, but here they're handled carefully. Rather than trying to update them to the current market, they're restored to their classic arcade versions. While the simple graphics and bright colors are a far cry from modern games of the late 90s and early 21st century, they still have a timeless appeal. The focus is on fun gameplay. The overall layout of the collection is nicely done and attractive. There is a definite strangeness to playing Pole Position using the mouse, and the control takes some getting used to. Although options for joystick play are included, it's often easier to use the keyboard controls for the games instead. Unlike their old arcade counterparts, however, the games included in this collection can be customized to some degree. Options allows you to change the number of lives and adjust scoring elements to be worth more or less. Although the games play true to form without the extras, the inclusion of the customization factors is a thoughtful and welcome bonus. Note: My compatibility CD does not alter the retail game or bypass copy protection. It allows the original media to install and run correctly on any recent version of Windows.
