Description: Description: This is a comprehensive and detailed explanation of the Midrash Rabbah in Hebrew, by the author Moshe Aryeh Mirkin. The first of the modern Hebrew commentaries, the author emphasizes the plain meaning of the text. He relies heavily on the edition of Theodore and Albeck, the great textual scholars, and builds many of his interpretations on manuscript emendations and corrections that they suggested. He has a great talent for brevity without compromising the meaning, and this is a most valuable contribution to understanding Midrash. He wrote his doctoral dissertation on the oral Yemenite Hebrew traditions under Polotsky, Shelomo Goitein, and Tur-Sinai at the Hebrew University and taught in the Department of Hebrew Language at The Hebrew University. Included in these volumes are a 20, 30 and even a 40 page introduction each time the Midrash starts a new Book of the five books of the Bible. He gives a scholarly background and explanation of the unique style and provenance of each of the Midrashic books. Condition: This set has really attractive covers and the binding are all in very nice shape. I did notice that most of the volumes have some light staining to page edges at the very edge, in one area, and some with some minor uneveness, but it isn't obtrusive at all. All pages are clean and clear. There is no writing in the interior whatsoever, except one volume has a name. Real nice attractive gold lettering on front covers and spines. The gold lettering is a lot more vibrant then how it shows up in the pictures. Printed in Israel between 1981-82. Smart-phone users, click top right menu of phone, select 'request desktop site'.
