Description: Heinlein released the original Starship Troopers within a year of Stranger in a Strange Land. Both books tackle criticism of social convention from different angles. The film focused on one satirical element from Heinlein's novel, that of the noble fascist state, which Paul S. Veerhoven lampooned in his film. He re-characterized the intent of Heinlein's novel to make a different point utilizing action elements of the same IP. To whit, in the book there were indeed female officers fighting the bugs; Heinlein had very libertarian views on such things. However, the film glamorized this potentiality, whereas Heinlein merely alluded to it. Contrarily, the soldiers in his novel had these amazing mechanized suits, they fired tactical nukes from rocket launchers, and there were only a few real "battles". It wasn't an action book. It was a snapshot of future military expansion from mankind through space. So fans were controversially unimpressed with the film, given its inversion of the book's intent. Accordingly, many eschewed this particular release of the book with a marketing still from the film as its cover. As a result, this particular paperback is a bit more rare than many realize, despite its recent printing. It's not astonishingly rare, but looking around, it's much easier to find other editions of this book. This copy is in very good condition, though there is a small tear on the cover, and speckling of some kind slightly blemishing the cover still from the film.
