Description: This Listing is for ONE NEW Single Thanksgiving Cornucopia 34Β’ Stamp from 2001.Mint. MNH. No flaws. From a Smoke-Free and Pet-Free Environment. On October 19, 2001, the U.S. Postal Service issued these Thanksgiving Cornucopia 34Β’ self-adhesive stamps in Dallas, TX in the Holiday Celebrations Series. The artist, Margaret Cusack of Brooklyn, NY, designed and created the machine-appliqued needlework - a cornucopia of fruits and vegetables, inscribed above with the words "We Give Thanks" - that is featured on this Thanksgiving stamp. The needlework is partially quilted, and is made of old and new fabrics - reminiscent of American folk art stitchery; and the quilted cornucopia pattern on the stamp symbolizes an abundant harvest and the promise of future prosperity. β¨The U.S. Thanksgiving holiday, observed on the fourth Thursday of November, stems from a rich history of celebrations. The best known of these celebrations is the first harvest festival at Plymouth, Massachusetts, where in autumn 1621 colonists and Native Americans gathered for a three-day feast to offer thanks for a bountiful harvest. In 1863 President Abraham Lincoln issued a Proclamation of Thanksgiving, marking the beginning of national recognition of an annual Thanksgiving holiday in the United States.
