1976 USA Olympic Basketball Warm Up Jacket Sand Knit Mitch Kupchak #15 NBA

Description: Rare and unusual 1976 United States Basketball warm up jacket, made by Sand Knit. I believe this was Mitch Kupchak’s warm up jacket. There is a number “15” patch sewn, into the bottom front hem. ( His 1976 Olympic jersey, is in the National Polish-American Sports Hall of Fame. It is also number 15. ) It is a size 42 . ( Mitch was listed at 6’-9” and weighing 229 pounds, so he was quite thin. ) A similar warm up jacket came to auction approximately 15 years ago, it had numerals, on the sleeve. After watching the gold medal game video, it is obvious, there were no numerals, on the jackets. This is obvious, watching the gold medal ceremony. This particular jacket, matches the video, of the gold medal game, versus Yugoslavia. This jacket has no numbers on the upper right arm sleeve. ( See photographs.) The jacket measures 23” pit to pit and 34” from the top of the collar to the bottom hem. It is in excellent vintage condition with minimal wear. Mitch was first round draft pick by the Washington Bullets. He is a three time NBA champion as a player. Once with the Washington Bullets and twice with the Los Angeles Lakers. He also was seven time NBA champion as an executive, all with the Los Angeles Lakers. He is an Olympic gold medalist. (1976 Montreal Olympics. ) He was voted AAC Player of the Year. And All-American, from the University of North Carolina Tar Heels. Mitch most likely will be inducted into the Basketball Hall of Fame, because of his accomplishments as a player and executive.
