Marco Gonzales started for the Mariners, while Mike Fiers went for the A’s. The Mariners won the game 9-7 behind hits by Dee Strange-Gordon, Jay Bruce, Domingo Santana, Ryon Healy, and Tim Beckham. The teams played again the next day with the Mariners winning 5-4 with hits from Strange-Gordon, Mitch Haniger, Santana, Beckham, and Healy. Ichiro Suzuki went hitless. Yusei Kikuchi started for the Mariners, making his MLB debut and being the first Japanese player making his MLB debut in Japan!! Dan Altavilla came into the game in the bottom of the seventh, replacing Roenis Elias. Altavilla walked Stephen Piscotty, gave up an RBI single to Khris Davis, and got Chad Pinder to ground out to end the inning.
