It tolerates both acid and alkaline soil conditions and is highly tolerant to saline conditions. Bermudagrass survives some flooding but does best on well-drained sites. Riviera Bermuda Grass is an improved variety that is drought tolerant and will withstand colder temperatures. Although it may persist under low fertility, bermudagrass has a high nitrogen requirement for good quality turf. Applying 3 to 5 pounds of nitrogen per 1000 square feet (1.5 to 2.5 kg/100 square meters) per growing season is adequate.
