This prisoner-of-war made early 19th Century games box has geometric designs throughout highlighted with polychrome sealing wax in several colors. The sliding lid reveals a full set of miniature dominoes inside. By the very nature of the these games boxes, each is one of a kind. The Napoleonic Wars were a series of seven wars or conflicts between Napoleon and a series other European coalitions. Bone games boxes made by prisoners-of-war are a highly sought after relic from this period and extend from very simple designs to those which are highly detailed and decorated such as this one. The prisoners even made working models of guillotines! 2 inches high; 7 1/4 inches long; 2 1/2 inches wide. In excellent antiquarian condition with the finials and two feet having been undetectably restored. Provenance: private New England collection.
