Description: NASA APOLLO Moon Missions 11-12-13-14-15-16-17 with all twenty-one (21) handwritten Astronaut Signatures by each 3-Man Apollo Moon Crew in one place! How rare and hard to find is this collaboration of all the history-making moon walkers and their outer space moon-orbiting pilots? You are bidding on authentic NASA Employee presentation awards to Life Sciences specialist, Bill Tomkins (circa 1973 following Apollo 17), who worked for NASA during the Apollo Space Program on all seven Moon Missions from 1969 to 1972 and later with the Apollo-Soyuz outer space docking program with a Russian capsule in Earth's orbit in 1975. Bill Tomkins was responsible for work regarding the astronauts' pressure suits and their life support systems, and he reported to the Flight Surgeon, and was stationed next to Mission Control in Houston during these Apollo missions. Essentially, these are two very nice, framed "thank you" cards given to the NASA employee and hand-signed by the Apollo astronauts that returned home to Earth alive after traveling to the Moon and back thanks in part due to the life support technologies during their flights. Plus there is a second award to Bill Tomkins signed by two Russian astronauts and three American astronauts from the Apollo-Soyuz Mission. The Apollo Moon Mission award measures about 17x14 inches with the image area about 13 1/2" x 10 1/2". The Apollo-Soyuz Mission award measures about 9x11 inches with the image area about 7 1/2" x 9 1/2". Both pieces are in frames under glass with the moon landing ready to hang. The Apollo-Soyuz needs a wire or hanger attached. The supporting materials are included in this sale: 2001 receipt, NASM email copy, and Examiner's report. The Forensic Handwriting Analysis Expert has determined the signatures to be real, wet ink, and handwritten by each individual astronaut. The Expert used microscopic photography to examine all 21 signatures. A sampling of those images are provided on page 3 of the report to support their findings. (See attached image of the report).Seller's observations: several of the Astronaut signatures follow a curved path around their respective mission patch. Most of the signatures do not come close to following a straight line, and you can see the first and last name are above or below each other, and at different angles. (See attached image with red line highlights for visual support of the examiner's report). The Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum Archives Department has confirmed the identity of NASA Apollo Mission employee, Bill Tomkins, as staff in the Life Systems Staff Support Room (Aeromed SSR), adjacent to Mission Control. Mr. Tomkins reported to the Flight Surgeon in the Mission Operations Control Room for matters regarding the health and well-being of astronauts, including their pressures suits and portable life-support equipment. (See attached image of NASM email reply). Both the Apollo and Apollo-Soyuz items come with a 2001 auction receipt from Butterfields San Francisco. Butterfields was sold to eBay in 1999 and then sold again to Bonham's by eBay in 2002. It was an auction house with a reputation for selling fine arts and furniture that existed for over 100 years in San Francisco. The starting bid is based on the Butterfields sale price adjusted for inflation. (See attached image of the receipt). The back side of the framed items each have their own Houston and Pasadena, TX frame shop stamps from their time of creation with the corresponding auction item number stickers still attached from the Butterfields receipt labeled 7213X. (See attached image collage of the stickers and ink stamps on backs). The paper used for these signings is not typical sheet paper, rather it is 100% cotton bond watercolor media paper on a watercolor board that one would use for such a special occasion as we see here. (See image of the backside of the signature board paper).Provided for reference, a previous RR Auction item for a NASA employee, Lot #9262 sold in April 2023, shows the same Apollo 11 embroidery patch as an exact match. (See reference image). The Apollo-Soyuz award was not examined by the forensic handwriting expert and is included in this auction as is. Under magnification, the live ink displays many of the same qualities found in the Apollo Moon Mission award with regards to the appearance and mannerisms of the autographs. It is the opinion of the Seller that these are also real handwritten signatures. (See attached image highlighting the curved and irregular signature of Deke Slayton). Autographs include...Apollo 11 crew: Neil Armstrong, Buzz Aldrin, Michael CollinsApollo 12 crew: Charles (Pete) Conrad, Alan LaVern Bean, Richard F. Gordon Jr.Apollo 13 crew: James Lovell, Fred Haise, Jack Swigert Apollo 14 crew: Alan Shepard, Edgar Mitchell, Stuart Roosa Apollo 15 crew: David Scott, James Irwin, Alfred Worden Apollo 16 crew: John Young, Charles Duke, Ken Mattingly Apollo 17 crew: Eugene Cernan, Harrison Schmitt, Ronald EvansApollo-Soyuz crew: Thomas P.
