Description: NASA Apollo Lunar Module Inconel Meteoroid and Thermal Black Body Shield. GRUMMAN Part Number LDW 280-23577-17 The Apollo LM deployed a High Strength Aerospace Inconel Shield designed to protect the Astronauts, the Aluminum Support Structure and Delicate Electronics from the Sun's Radiation and Micro-Meteorite Strikes while Deployed in Space and on the Moon's Surface. This Inconel sheet has be surface treated as a Flat Black Body Radiation Protector while the inner surface has a Flat Gray surface treatment. This Artifact served a multitude of purposes designed to protect the LM with a minimum of weight and maximum durability. Basic Dimensions: 3 inches by 1.25 inches I purchased this item from a Charles H Bell auction in the year 2000. This shield was originally wrapped around an Apollo Lunar Module Flight Spare Strut. I removed this shield from the strut and it has been sectioned into squares for sale. I photographed the original Grumman part number and certification stamp from the "parent" material as shown in a pictured example. There is a RED Grumman Certification Stamp shaped "G" containing the number 1010 on the Master Reference piece shown for "reference only." This Apollo item originally belonged to Charles H. Bell, a world class collector of Space Hardware from 1965 until 2000. He purchased this artifact from the Kennedy Space Center, Ransom Road Facility during the 1970's, after the Apollo Program ended. I purchased this item from several year 2000 auctions in Titusville (Courtney) Florida. *The Third to last photo shows the Inconel Black Body Thermal Radiation Shield.* **The last 2 photos feature the RED Grumman certification stamp and Part Number from the Parent Material and is shown only as a reference and Provenance.** For a wider perspective on this item, please search QUORA "What was the Apollo Lunar Module made of ?"
