Description: From the Private Collection of KSCartist-Tim Gagnon aka "The Patch Guy." NASA -ESA Hubble Space Telescope Launch CommemorativeOn April 24th 2021 we marked the 31st anniversary of the launch of the Hubble Space Telescope. Like everything else, the pandemic delayed this celebration by a year.Jorge Cartes and I created a new commemorative to celebrate this impressive achievement. This patch depicts both the launch of STS-31 and the Hubble on orbit peering into the Universe. This patch is 5 inches wide and 4.5 inches high"BackstoryOn April 24th 1990 the Space Shuttle Discovery was launched with one of the most ambitious payloads ever. A school bus sized space telescope named for Astronomer Edwin Hubble. Although the nearly 7 foot diameter primary mirror had a spherical aberration smaller than the width of a human hair, it was severe enough to cause imagery to be blurred. Luckily the Hubble Space Telescope was designed to be serviced and upgraded on orbit. During the shuttle program five missions did just that and Hubble has become a successful astronomy platform.* Artist will sign back of patch upon request.
