How to fit a false tail: Step 1: Start at the base of the dock, take some hair approx ½ cm thickness, split this into 3 strands from which you can form a plait. Step 2: Begin to plait a 3 strand plait just as you would to plait your horse’s mane. Make 3 or 4 crossovers before you are ready to put the false tail in. Step 3: After 3 or 4 crossovers, take one of the strands of the plait and thread it through the loop at the top of the false tail. Continue to plait for approx 2 inches once you have threaded the one strand through the loop. Step 4: Once you have plaited down 2 inches, put in a rubber band to secure and / or sew the base of the plait. Some people also prefer to put in a couple of stitches around the loop within the plait. Step 5: Shake your horse’s tail – the false tail will merge inside the existing tail.
