Our Company:Our company specializes in providing hand-made wood products that are created with reclaimed wood from various structures. All of our products are made in the heart of the Appalachian Mountains with reclaimed materials. Our reclaimed lumber has aged with grace and still maintains its resilience despite weathering the elements that produce its mountain character. We hope by describing our process our customers can recognize both the hard work and effort that goes into creating our products as well as our love and care for the craft and the history of our homeland. Our Process:Reclaiming barn wood is the environmentally friendly process of recycling aging lumber and repurposing it for both use and decoration in the home of the purchaser. The process begins with local artisans and craftsmen who scour the highlands of the Appalachians for long abandoned barns and farm houses, some of which date back well over 100 to 150 years. Once a building is located, and permission obtained from the property owner, the salvagers painstakingly undertake the time consuming task of reclaiming the wood products. This process is important as it takes a keen eye to differentiate between what is unfortunately unrecoverable and what is suitable to become a small part of Americana that we can impart unto your homes.After being cleaned and dried the prime materials are taken back to our production facility for preparation to be cut. This part of the process begins by removing any nails, screws, or other materials and related metals that have the potential to be both hazardous to our workers and to our consumers and are visually detracting from the finished product. The wood then undergoes a specialized cleaning process that seeks to remove dangerous toxins, algae, and fungal growths as well as dirt, dust, and cobwebs. This cleaning allows for the true beauty and character of the aging process to be revealed.Once materials are properly prepared our products are created. This begins with the wood being cut to fit the intended product. After being cut the barn wood is then carefully assembled. This part of the process is particularly interesting as each piece of wood that is cut is fundamentally unique beyond specie and type. For example, a piece might have a unique grain or knot, or even have been uniquely shaped by nature such as by an animal. This results in each and every product being a unique piece of art that has a history and a story to share.
