Great Conversation Piece! Note of Interest: A Stereograph is an image made up of 2 photographs. These took the Victorian world by storm in the late 19th Century, as they became a hugely popular optical phenomenon people could view in their own homes. There were Table top models, Handheld Models and even Penny arcade models. The left image shows roughly what the left eye sees, the right image the right eye. When viewed through a stereoscope the images combine to appear in a 3 dimensional way. Stereograph cameras were used to capture these images. The photographers were sent all over the world by the stereoscopic manufacturers to capture the images. Subjects ranged from Educational, Historical, Celebrities, Comical to Absurd. Travel Photography was very popular. The paper-view stereocards were produced in the 1850s right up until the 1930's. Handheld stereograph viewers were invented in the late 1850s by Oliver Wendell Holmes. The Curved Card Mounts were invented in the late 1870's by B.W. Kilburn
