Description: O.M.G.S 12 Transistor AM Radio 1963? Serviced Works Excellent Vintage VTG The radio works like it did when it was new. If you’d like to read my description of the work I’ve done that has restored this radio to full performance, please read on: I could not find a model number for this radio. By its materials and the civil defense markings on its dial, I believe it was made in 1964. Because I repair several radios a week, I happen to know who made it. Toyko Transistor Company, who sold millions of transistor radios, using the brand names OMGS, Omega, Universal, Candle, Krysler, Goldtone, and likely others I haven’t met yet. It came to me 10-30-2024 not working and needing service. The circuit board screws were loose and the “12” script had detached. I disassembled the radio and diagnosed its working condition. Diagnoses: The radio worked, but not at full performance. The radio needed replacement capacitors. I usually replace all the capacitors in the old radios I sell because I want my customers who buy a radio from me to have a radio that works like it did when it was new. I cleaned the volume control and reassembled the radio. Repaired, it’s loud. Volume control goes smoothly from totally silent to blazing overload loud. It produces a clean and clear sound. It’s sensitive. I was able to easily zoom straight to the local weak stations in my area I use to confirm a radio is working correctly. It is. I was able to tune the oldies station that’s 250 miles away quite well. It’s an excellent performer. It is well used. It has some scratches and stains. The cabinet has a small chip in the bottom and some weird chipping on the top where the cabinet meets its metal front. Please see my photos. A word from this old radio repair guy: A good performing radio will typically use eight transistors. This radio uses twelve. The extra four are being used to replace the converter and audio output transformers. Referred to as being “Direct Coupled”, the signal loss that is inherent to transformers is avoided. This will have the effect of making a radio more sensitive and have a cleaner sound. I would like to say that even though this old radio is a little beat up, it’s an exceptional performer. If I rated performance on a 1-10 scale: 9.5. I service almost all the vintage radios I sell on eBay. Serviced = I clean the volume control, check the radio’s alignment, and check its current draw. I ship USPS Flat Rate. A tracking number will be provided the following business day after purchase. I will combine shipping when applicable, so please see my other cool old radios for sale. -karl : )_
