Original 1860s Civil War Changeante Silk Taffeta Gown Beaded Museum Deaccession

Description: *******My apologies for ending this listing early and then relisting it, but I realized I made a mistake when "sending offers". I sent several offers for $299.00 when the listed price was $749.00. Because I cannot sell this gown for only $299.00, as an apology I lowered the listing price to $649.00.******* Offering an authentic, original 1860s Civil War gown of patterned changeante Silk Taffeta. This has long been in my personal collection of historic clothing. It has been deaccessioned from a museum and still retains the sewn-in museum identification tag. Constructed of a heavy, lush patterned, shimmery silk taffeta in a lovely shade of blue-gray that changes hues depending on the lighting. The silk has a tiny cream pattern that is slightly raised, as you can feel the slight texture when touching the fabric. This was originally a costly fabric that would have been available to someone with financial means. the entire gown is lined with polished cotton with the bottom hem and cuffs lined with velvet. The dress is one-piece in construction and fastens in the front with hidden hooks and eyes. The waist is knife-pleated . The bodice is lavishly ornamented, as is the tightly ruched sleeves, with tasteful black braid further decorated with tiny black glass and clear hanging baubles. Some have been lost over time. The ornate beaded "buttons" on the bodice are purely ornamental and cover the placket where it hides the hooks and eyes. This gown is in excellent condition with no weakness or other staining or damage. The gown evinces the fullness of crinoline period, which reached its zenith during the Civil War years 1861-1865. Thereafter the hoop skirts began a movement to a flatter front and the fullness began shifting to the back on its way to the bustle period. Measurements are, as taken while the gown is on my mannequin: Bust: 31" Waist: 24" Dropped shoulder to dropped shoulder: 18" Shoulder to piped waistline: 14" Total Length: 54" Sleeve length: From piped dropped sleeve, (which has a slight curve) to velvet cuff is 19" Please consider my photos to be part of the description, and message me with any questions at all.
