Description: Approx. 5 1/4" x 4 3/4". These are two original and authentic 1940s World War II photos; the first is of a native Chinese old man and a child hulling rice; the second shows rice paddies in Yunnan province. >>>>More listed - search for CBI WW2. ------------------------------------------------------------------ This listing is part of a collection of high-quality photos from a U.S. Army soldier who served in the China-Burma-India (CBI) theater of operations during WWII. He was a USAAF reconnaissance photographer with the 14th Air Force / Flying Tigers, with many photos developed and stamped on reverse '4th Photo Tech Unit' in Kunming (their headquarters and 14th Air Force base). He went everywhere in that theater. I have photos from all over China, India, and Burma (Myanmar). Many from his life in and around Kunming & Yunnan province, as well as Shanghai, Beijing, Xian, Calcutta, Delhi, and many places unidentified. He was there at Ledo Road (Stilwell Road), "Pick's First Convoy" in Assam, and the ceremony opening of Kunming with General Lewis Pick at the termination of Ledo Road. Most photos are approx. 4 3/4" x 5 1/4". I'm not sure of the camera used, but he always talked about his beloved Hasselblad. His composition skills were fantastic. They are candid shots taken personally by this soldier, not souvenir photos. I've had this collection for 25 years and finally decided to sell. My titles come from his personal notes and my conversations with him - but feel free to ask questions and send any corrections. After the war, he continued his career as a professional photographer in portraits, fashion, and pop culture. The soldier's name can be sent on request after sale. ----------------------------------------------------------- The photos marked "Not Included In Auction" are not for sale at this time but are shown to provide context and provenance. Note the Flying Tigers emblem on the back wall, the building where they developed photos in Kunming, the mid-air recon photos of two warplanes (a P-38 Lightning and a P-51 Mustang), and the rubber stamp 4TH PHOTO TECH UNIT on the reverse of one of the photos from this collection.
