Description: This listing is for a OTTO A. GLAESEL 16.5" Viola 1700 Stradivarius VA033E Vintage 1983 w/ Modern Case in excellent vintage used condition. The Model VA033 by Otto A. Glaesel Viola was produced and patterned after the 1724 Stradivarius Viola. Carefully selected top and back, carved and graduated for optimum tone. Finished in deep amber orange oil vanish. Ebony fingerboard and trim accented by a beautiful boxwood tailpiece and tuning pegs with bone accents. The two-piece maple back is of mostly plain with medium flame. The two-piece spruce top is of medium grain. The varnish is a well balanced reddish orange-brown color. Measurements: Length of Back: 408 mm (16″), Upper Bouts: 192 mm, Middle Bouts: 133 mm, Lower Bouts: 234 mm, String Length: 373 mm. Strings have been replaced with brand new solid steel core D'Addario Prelude viola strings; largely unaffected by temperature and humidity changes, they have excellent bow response and among the warmest sound available. Brand new and professionally carved and fitted French Aubert A Mirecourt Treated Maple bridge. Sound post is in place. Only a few rather minor imperfections to the varnish (see photos). Bow is not present and thus not included.
