Description: This item is a pair (2) of Glasbake Shell-shaped dishes. The hallmark (not mentioning McKee or Jeanette, with e on end of work "bake") means these dishes date 1917 - 1953. Dimensions each: 5.5" Wide x 5" Long x 1-3/8" Tall Unpacked weight: 14 oz. Condition: Excellent giftable condition. No chips, flakes, breaks, mends, repairs, cracks, hairlines, blemishes, or mentionable boo-boo's. Don't feel anything amiss when I run finger around edges. Billed as “A sanitary baking ware and serving ware combined”, Glasbak was designed to go from the oven, to the table, to the refrigerator, thus liberating housewives from the piles of dishes that accompanied the preparation of every meal. The idea was that the same dish could be used to cook, serve, and store meals. “Glasbak Ovenware” was introduced in 1917 by the McKee Glass Company from Jeannette, Pennsylvania. Glasbak was specifically designed to compete with the Pyrex product line, which was created by Corning Glass Works and enjoying major success at the time. The "e" was added to make the name "Glasbake" later in 1917 after introduction. In the first half of the 20th century, women all around the world were pushing for modernized kitchens. They were turning away from the demands of a full days’ work spent in the kitchen in order to provide meals for their families. Housewives were looking for kitchen products that saved time – and glass bakeware provided notable solutions. Always happy to pass through discounts on combined shipping. I only charge actual postage, and always use recycled packing materials. Note some photos appear redundant because I take photos from all possible angles. On symmetrical items, these photos may appear redundant when there are no distinguishing differences or condition issues between side views. I gladly accept returns, but please note I do not pay return postage unless there was a significant error in my description. The item listed is being sold as is, as pictured and as described to the best of my knowledge. All dimensions and weights approximate. If you have a question or an assumption on an item prior to purchase, please ask. I much prefer to take the time on the front end to make sure you will be satisfied with your purchase. Remember, when buying vintage expect imperfections as these items have a history and have been in the possession of others. I try to list EVERY flaw which would be commented on something in an antique or vintage condition – this does not mean all imperfections resulting from normal wear & use require comment. My goal is to have no rude surprises upon receipt.
