Description: Paulownia FortuneiAlso known as: The Princess Tree, Phoenix Tree, Dragon Tree, Fortunes Empress Tree, originally Pavlovnia. This showy ornamental is present in much of China, south to northern Laos and Vietnam and has been long cultivated elsewhere in eastern Asia, notably in Japan and Korea. Becoming more popular in North America. They are deciduous trees 12–15 m (39–49 ft) tall, with massive, heart shaped leaves 15–40 cm across, arranged in opposite pairs on the stem. They make good fodder for farm animals containing 18-20% protein and with high amounts of nitrogen. They also make a nice tea for us humans. The flowers are produced in early spring on panicles 10–30 cm long, with a tubular purple corolla resembling a foxglove flower. They are very rich in nectar so most of the organic honey in China comes from the Paulownia tree. They are lightly scented lavender, last for about 6-8 weeks and make a tasty addition to your salad. The fruit is a dry capsule, containing numerous minute seeds. The wood itself is light but strong and is widely used for boat building, surfboards, and various stringed musical instruments. Used in agroforestry systems because it is extremely fast growing up to 20 feet in one year when young. Some species of plantation Paulownia can be harvested for saw timber in as little as five years. Once the trees are harvested, they regenerate from their existing root systems, earning them the name of the "Phoenix tree". It is deep rooting so it is good for erosion control. It is also late leafing and its canopy is quite sparse so that any crops below will get both enough light to grow and to be sheltered. Each acre of trees will scrub 13 tons of harmful CO2 gases and dust from the air each year. What more could you ask for!Seeds are easily killed off by soil fungi and not enough sun, so it is recommended to cook the soil at high temperatures prior to surface sown planting and to provide adequate sunlight to avoid problems. They also do not like high water tables because the trees themselves are also susceptible to rot. Hardy to USDA zone 8b and above. This offer is for (approximately) 200+ small seeds.(1 pack as shown in the last photo) For complete transparency we include payment processing & Ebay fees in our shipping/handling cost.*DISCLAIMER*NO RETURNS/REFUNDS/REPLACEMENTS ON SEEDSMost specialty seeds we offer are NOT fast to germinate. Many take several weeks, months, and some even up towards a year depending on dormancy, region, season etc. It is important that the buyer understands that seeds are perishable products and seed germination can be adversely affected by such factors as mold/fungus, bugs, temperature, moisture content, light intensity, dormancy, care, contamination of planting media among many other reasons. These factors are totally out of The Plant Attraction's control and are the buyer's responsibility and risk. Germination recommendations are sent with each order and the buyer is free to research and use their own methods. Floating seeds do not always indicate that the seed is not viable. Many times it is a misconception because the seed does not have the density to sink in water. Accordingly, The Plant Attraction does not guarantee seeds to perform properly regardless of conditions or buyer's methods or mistakes. Since 2006 we have been doing our best to hand sort and provide the freshest, cleanest harvest that is free of defects and bugs.
