Description: Photograph Notes: The temple is located in the southeastern corner of the south lawn, beside the lake. Much of Mannington Hall as it stands today > http://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/878940 - http://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/878934 was built in the 15th century; the surrounding park comprises about 20 acres of ground. After having purchased the Hall in the mid-18th century by the 1st Lord Walpole, the gardens were established with battlemented walls and yew hedges. The walled garden was planted with thousands of roses during the 1980s and now serves as a Heritage Rose Garden, featuring mainly classic varieties. The medieval house is surrounded by a moat; on the south lawn there is a classical temple (seen here); there are lakes and a lake side walk, tea room, garden shop, childrens play area and picnic area and there are 20 miles of nature trails and footpaths to explore. The ruined St Marys chapel > http://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/519970 and chapel gardens can be found across the road. An unusual feature are several depressions in the ground > http://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/878934 - one right beside the main drive - which are believed to have been caused by subsidence due to changes in the course of the underground springs that feed the lakes and moat. The grid line runs through the centre of the building; views of the northern section can be seen in the adjacent grid square [[TG1432]].
