Description: Prudence Kitten '50s Vintage Hand Puppet Extremely rare Prudence Kitten vintage hand puppet dating from the 1950s. She has a hard head with what appears to be the remnants of flocking, black and pink felt ears, and wiry whiskers. She also has brown plush and pink felt paws. She's wearing her original gingham print calico dress, including patch pocket with pocket square, organza frill ruffle detail, buttons, and ribbon trim. She is in good condition overall but does exhibit some age-related wear, including some indentations of the head, and some discolouration of the head and dress. Prudence Kitten was created for the BBC by Annette Mills, best known for her partnership with Muffin the Mule. Unlike Muffin, Prudence and her friends were glove puppets rather than marionettes. After Mills’ death in 1955, her daughter Molly Blake took over performing with Prudence. Prudence had a sister called Primrose and a brother-in-law, a pipe-smoking merchant seaman cat, called Nelson. This is a wonderful piece of children’s television history that doesn’t come to the market for sale very often and would be a great addition to any Muffin the Mule, Prudence Kitten, or Annette Mills collection.
