Description: Scarce original Carte de Visitie photograph of General Tom Thumb and his wife in later life towards the end of their performance years with P. T. Barnum and the Circus. This CDV was produced in the 1880’s. Tom Thumb sold these souvenir photographs which were offered for sale during their sideshow performances with the circus. Nice original condition. Standard CDV photo size: 4” x 2-1/2”. Probably one of the most successful sideshow performers in history. His real name was Charles Stratton. Barnum gave him the stage name of Tom Thumb. He was an accomplished actor, singer, comedian, and possessed many other talents. His height at age 40 was 2 feet and11 inches. He became extremely wealthy, mixed with nobility, was a master Mason, etc. Once when Barnum was on the verge of bankruptcy, Stratton bailed Barnum out of his problems. Interesting historic American character !!
