Description: Rare 1798 Draped Bust Herald Eagle Silver Dollar NGC AU Details AM032 Here is a really cool (224) year old United States silver dollar. This is only the 6th year US coins were made and only the 5th year silver dollars were made so it has a historical timeframe when it was produced. The coin is in a certified NGC almost uncirculated details damaged holder however I can find little if anything that would merit the “damaged” designation. The coin does have a few “minor” contact marks from back in 1798 or around that time but nothing major or distracting. The coin also has all of its original color/patina and has not been cleaned so it’s a desirable coin for sure. Most of the early US silver coins were cleaned back in the day because that is what people did back then and didn’t recognize that cleaning a coin would diminish the value. This coin somehow made it throughout the years in nearly uncirculated condition just stored away somewhere.
