Description: Rare 1935 Era Original Architectural Drawing Fore River Bridge Quincy Weymouth Massachusetts. This is NOT a print, it is hand drawn. Made for Desmond & Lord Architects. The oak frame measures 23" x 38 1/2" and the artwork is 18 1/2" x 34". Proposed Bridge At Weymouth Fore River. Looks to be a pencil drawings with watercolor filled in but not certain of that. Guaranteed genuine authentic original bridge plans hand made. It comes in the original dark oak frame, no glass cover is present if it originally had one. The artwork looks to be possibly faded a bit and there are a few scuff marks. My 11 detailed photos should give you a good appraisal. The original bridge was built in 1936 which is why I estimate this drawing 1935 era, possibly a year or 2 earlier. Desmond, G. Henri (George Henri), 1876-1965G. Henri Desmond was a Boston-based architect born 22 Feb. 1876 in Watertown, Mass. After studying architecture with a leading local firm, he established Desmond & Lord in 1907. He designed numerous public and commercial buildings in Maine, such as the Fidelity Building and New Portland Theatre in Portland, Me.; the chapel at Poland Springs, Me.; and the renovation and expansion of the Maine State House in 1910. His work in Massachusetts was of a similar nature, including Harvard University.The State Loan Company had "the authority to hold, operate, and deal in real estate." The president was Charles Sumner Cook. The company built the Fidelity Building and the New Portland Theatre Building. The Fidelity Building was at 465 Congress St., Portland, Me., and the theater was adjacent to it, at 11 Preble St. A tunnel connected the two buildings. The Fidelity Building later became the Maine Bank and Trust Building and is currently a People's United Bank. The theater building was torn down in 1995. The Fore River Bridge spans the Weymouth Fore River between Quincy and Weymouth, Massachusetts. The total length of the bridge including the approaches is 2,216 feet (675 m).A bascule bridge was built in 1936, replacing an earlier span. The bascule bridge was demolished in 2004 as it was considered structurally deficient and unsafe.
