Rare "Archie Andrews" Cussons Soap 1953 VNM

Description: This probably means nothing to anyone under seventy years old. I picked this item up in a thrift store in Harrogate Yorkshire - way back in 1973 (it was twenty years old even then!) What you see now is exactly as it was when I bought it......fifty-one years ago! Peter Brough and Archie Andrews were originally an extremely popular radio and then television show in the early fifties. A very young Julie Andrews back in 1951 played Archie's girlfriend in one radio episode. Peter Brough was the ventriloquist of course and Archie Andrews his overly assertive doll. As a family we would leave the supper dishes in the sink and hightail it to the lounge room just in time to hear "And here's Peter Brough and Archie Andrews." They were huge in those days. So when I saw this soap figurine I had to buy it. Never seen one since! For a seventy-three year old piece of soap - both it and the box are in amazingly good shape. Later in the fifties I was given other Cusson's soaps (this one must have been one of their first items) - Bambi and Lady and the Tramp - which started my collection. Image 8 shows Archie with both of them. Image 7 shows Archie's display home for the last twenty years in the US (the same glass cabinet he lived-in back in Sydney Australia). The last picture shows Archie with his ventriloquist partner Peter Brough back in 1952 This is a collector's great opportunity (even if you're light years from seventy)
